Rock and Roll pioneer Little Richard dead at 87
Rock and Roll pioneer Little Richard has died following a battle with bone cancer.
Little Richard was known for inspiring some of the biggest artists in the world, with songs like Tutti Frutti, Lucille, and Long Tall Sally.
Born Richard Wayne Penniman in Macon, Georgia in 1932, Richard sold over more than 30 million records worldwide, influencing artists like The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, Prince and Neil Young.
Paul McCartney reportedly asked Little Richard for singing lessons to get his iconic ‘whoooo’ sound.
Richard was also known for his work alongside Elvis Presley, who labeled Richard ‘The Architect of Rock and Roll’.
87 year-old Richard died in in his sleep at his brother’s home in Tullahoma, Tennessee. He is survived by his son, Danny Jones Penniman.
