When Will The Movies Be Back?
Hayden Cooper – 29th April 2020
Due to recent events, a lot of movies and TV shows have been stumped, postponed and in some cases cancelled for now. Whether it’s ready to be released, in the post-production stage, currently being filmed or even in the drawing board stage, movies and tv shows have been delayed. As far back as January this year production companies and movie theatres have been shutting all across the world.
Some of the big name movies that have had their release date postponed are the 9th movie in the fast and the furious franchise that introduced WWE superstar John Cena and the long time character Han portrayed by Sung Kang. This movie was postponed from its initial release date in late May of this year, but has now been postponed to early April of next year. Other movies that have been moved are the wonder woman sequel Wonder Woman 1984, the new Top Gun movie that was set to be released 34 years after the first, Top Gun: Maverick and A Quiet Place Part II.
One of the first movies that was set to release in July to postpone its release date was ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru,’ for an entire year. In a statement, Illumination founder Chris Meledandri said “In response to the severity of the situation in France, we are temporarily closing our Illumination Mac Guff studio in Paris.” He continued by saying “This means we will be unable to finish ‘Minions: The Rise of Gru,’ in time for our planned global releases.”
But the silver lining in the downfall of the silver screens is that more movies are going to streaming services earlier or even straight to, Chris Hemsworth’s most recent movie Extraction went straight to Netflix rather than released in cinemas first. Could this be the end of movies being released in cinemas? How will we get that mouth-watering popcorn if not over the counter at the local cinema? When these movies are released again be sure to support local and keep the business booming by not visiting any pirating websites to watch movies illegally.
