Rapper Kanye West has announced on Twitter that this year he plans to run for president of the United States.
West wrote on Twitter stating, “We must now realize the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States”.
The announcement itself was made four years after he promised to run for presidency at the MTV Video Music Awards when he received the Video Vanguard Award from Taylor Swift.
Current President Donald Trump has had several meetings with the singer, with one meeting in October of 2018 resulting in West delivering a profanity-laden speech in which he brought up alternative dimensions and his diagnosis of a bipolar disorder, which West said was actually sleep deprivation.
The following year, in November of 2019, West spoke at the Innovation Festival stating that he intended to run for presidency in 2024, which resulted in the audience erupting in laughter.
“We would create so many jobs! I’m not going to run, I’m going to walk. When you see headlines saying Kanye’s crazy — one in three African Americans are in jail and all the celebrities are in jail also because they can’t say nothing, they got no opinion, they’re so scared!”
The chief executive of electric-car maker tesla, Elon Musk, who’s another celebrity known for eccentric and unpredictable outbursts, backed Kanye’s Twitter post, stating, “You have my full support”
