Mark McGowan’s Special Announcement for Kids
Mark McGowan’s Special Announcement for Kids

Kiara Thompson – 3rd April 2020

On the 3rd of April 2020, The Premier of Western Australia Mark McGowan made a special announcement to all WA kids with a video saying the Easter bunny is egg-exempt from the travel ban.

This video was made after receiving a letter from a 9-year-old girl worried that the Easter Bunny couldn’t visit this year, with many of the comments in the video saying “thank you this has helped make it easier for my kids” and others praising him for taking the time out of his day to give hope to kids all across WA.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FOR WA KIDS (and chocolate lovers)

Yesterday, I received a letter from Taylah, who is nine years old and lives in Thornlie.

Taylah asks:

"Will the Easter Bunny be able to come to WA this year?"

Well Taylah, I have some very important news: pic.twitter.com/Rls5BK6pDY

With many schools now closed and parents at home, it has been an interesting time for kids everywhere. As the restriction continues many can not leave their homes, see friends or play outside on playgrounds. Making them feel very confused about everything that they now can’t do.

As a sister of a 10, 6 and 2-year-old this video was great in helping the kids in my family understand what was happening without scaring them about the situation and giving them hope that there was still something to look forward to and that things will eventually go back to normal.
