Grimes and Elon Musk give birth to their first child, X Æ A-12

On Monday Space X and Tesla founder Elon Musk, and electronic musician Grimes welcomed their first baby boy after a pregnancy surrounded by media attention. Musk shared the news via twitter after being asked about it by a follower, tweeting out that the baby was “a few hours away”, and then following up later with “Mom & baby all good.”
The baby boy has apparently been named X Æ A-12 Musk, according to tweets by the two parents. The name has caused a massive stir on the internet, some people were in disbelief, with many thinking the name was a joke. Some thought the name drama was hilarious, with one twitter user saying “can’t believe you are going to name your kid a Wi-Fi router password.” Grimes later took to Twitter to give an explanation for the name, stating that X meant an unknown variable, the Æ was her “elven spelling of AI”, and the A-12 was official name of the couple’s favourite aircraft.

Musk and Grimes child comes after two years of media furor surrounding the couple, with their first public appearance together in 2018 at the MET Gala being one of the biggest stories of the year. The media frenzy continued when the couple unfollowed each on twitter in August of that year, with many assuming that the two had broken up. In March 2019 Grimes confirmed in an interview with the Wall Street Journal that the couple was still together, and that the silence surrounding their relationship was because she was unprepared for the sudden publicity it gave her, saying it was “a very disturbing moment for her.”
The couple made the first public announcement of Grimes pregnancy in January of this year, with Grimes revealing it on her Instagram, and then later confirming in a Rolling Stone article in March that the child was indeed Musk’s. Grimes intends to take time off from touring her recent album, to focus on bonding with the baby.
