Comic-Con kind of canned for 2020

Unfortunately due to the current worldwide pandemic, a lot of event organisers have had to say catch you later to events that are based yearly. This has affected a multitude of different organisations and industries. The live music venues have taken a hit specifically in Perth with the first of many events cut like, Hyperfest and Groovin the Moo. But a few event organisers have seen a new way to tackle the issues of population per square metre. That answer being live streaming, many events have become an online-focused event rather than an in-person event with the likes of State of The Art Festival, Richmond Street Records Mega Mixtape Livestream. But over in America, the same rules apply and one of the biggest comic book-loving, cosplay wearing, nerd conventions San Diego Comic-Con have announced that they will be making it a live stream rather than an in-person event.
This year it will be named Comic-Con@Home which will feature multiple free live streams for panels, announcements and many gaming and comic book related announcements. They have come out and said “for the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually
anyone from around the globe,” said SDCC spokesperson David Glanzer.“Though stay-at-home conditions make this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community.” They have limited edition badges that viewers can print off and wear proudly during the duration of the event but also just enjoy the entire weekend free. The confirmed dates are July 22-26, 2020, the exact same dates as the original, cancelled San Diego Comic-Con.
