Police explain learner driver fine
Police have publicly responded to criticism after issuing a fine to an Adelaide learner driver for breaching Australia’s stage three coronavirus regulations.
Deputy Commissioner Shane Patton told 3AW radio that blatant rule-breakers should be fined but there was community confusion.
“We will withdraw it because clearly that wasn’t widely understood by the public,” he said.
“Undertaking a driving lesson by itself, to go out and simply drive off somewhere to undertake a driving lesson with your parent — you are not able to do it.”
The teenager was issued with a $1652 on-the-spot fine for breaching the stage three restrictions relating to COVID-19.
Shark attack claims QLD Ranger
A young Queensland ranger was fatally attacked by a shark in front of his work mates, during a swim on the Great Barrier Reef on Monday.
The ranger suffered extensive leg and arm injuries and survived an emergency flight to the Gladstone Hospital but later died.
A social media statement on said the 2014 graduate died while undertaking research and maintenance work.
“This was Zach’s dream job and he embraced all that it entailed.”
“Every one of us has a Zach shaped hole in our heart. And each shape is unique,” the statement said.
A coroner’s report is now being prepared as QLD Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch offered her sympathy to the victim’s family.
Aussies told to keep their distance
Australians have been told to uphold the COVID19 social distance measures.
Health authorities are urging Aussie’s to keep practising social distancing measures, despite the rate of coronavirus cases falling.
The government is continuing to work on the tough restrictions and bring economic support for businesses suffering, over the next six months.
Together we’re making significant progress, the curve is flattening and the rate of new infections has dropped to an average of three per cent.
The Good News: Kyrgios offers a hand to needy
Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios took instagram with a selfless gesture for those struggling during COVID-19 pandemic.
“If ANYONE is not working/not getting an income and runs out of food, or times are just tough, please don’t go to sleep with an empty stomach,” Kyrgios posted.
“Don’t be afraid or embarrassed to send me a private message.
“I will be more than happy to share whatever I have. Even just for a box of noodles, a loaf of bread or milk. I will drop it off at your doorstep, no questions asked.”
