WA Travel restrictions come into effect
Effective as of today Western Australians will be restricted to travelling within their regional borders.
With checkpoints set up across highways entering regional areas, police are warning the public that they will receive a fine of up to $50,000 if they are seen trying to cross these borders other than for the purpose of work, medical needs, school or on compassionate grounds.
“I have been told that people are just going to do that (take back roads to avoid checkpoints) and my question is, really?” said South West Superintendent, Geoff Stewart.
My response to when I hear that- “you’re a knob. This is about the greater good and protecting everyone else.” he added.
A police hotline is in place for anyone with queries about the exemptions on 132 6843.
WA records 28 new cases of Covid19
Western Australia has recorded 28 new cases of COVID-19 overnight, including a four-year-old child, bringing the state total up to 392.
Yesterday the state was praised for the decrease in cases, however it is hard to predict what the next week will bring as the state moves to expand its testing capabilities.
Most of the new cases have been overseas in the past fortnight.
Health Minister Roger Cook also confirmed there are 12 passengers still onboard the Artania and will be moved depending on their status.
Australians called upon to salute diggers from driveway
While many ANZAC day services have been canceled for this year, Australians are now being called upon to walk to the end over their driveway at dawn to pay tribute to our country’s fallen soldiers.
RSL branches in each state announced the gesture today so families can pay their respects in a different way in these unusual times.
Radio networks are also in the process of organising rights to broadcast the services to people at home, so families can pay their respect while in self-isolation.
AFL clubs seek jobseeker support
Eighteen AFL clubs have now applied for government jobseeker assistance after it was revealed that nearly 80 percent of club staff across the league staff have been stood down.
AFL Chief Executive, Gillon Mclachlan assured clubs that the AFL will offer assistance if necessary, as the league looked to secure the financial future of clubs in the aftermath of the 2020 season postponement.
“We came in with 18 clubs and we will come out with 18 clubs’’ he said.
