Perth wakes to blanket of smoke
Prescribed burn offs have once again blanketed the city with a thick smoke haze this morning.
Western Australia Parks and Wildlife service first issued the smoke warning for the metro area on Wednesday afternoon with forecasts for the haze to clear by yesterday morning, however conditions have assisted the smoke to linger over the city.
Main Roads WA has also issued warning for motorists in the northern metro suburb of Carabooda where visibility may be reduced for motorists.
Asthma sufferers and those with existing respiratory conditions are advised to seek medical advice if the conditions trigger any symptoms.
PM: Domestic holidays could be up and running by July holidays
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has suggested domestic holidays and vacations could be up and running for Australian families by the July school holidays.
“Australians can hopefully soon return to domestic holidays and to move around the country more widely, and particularly with school holidays coming up again in July,” the Prime Minister said.
Mr Morrison also said that with no option for international travel, efforts would be needed to support and improve tourism within Australia.
“I had that discussion with the Minister for Tourism this week and to work with Tourism Australia and the other state and territory agencies that are responsible for tourism, to focus on seeing that realised as our domestic tourism industry gets back on its feet,” he said.
A national cabinet meeting will take place today to discuss the myriad of issues including the easing of restrictions, the state of the economy and the government’s plan for mental health.
Police to investigate death of Broome woman
Perth Police are investigating the death of woman in Broome today.
The woman was found in her Broome home with serious injuries on Thursday afternoon, but later died in hospital.
ABC reports that a man is currently assisting police with detectives from Perth’s homicide squad now in charge of the investigation.
The Good News: Date for AFL return
The coronavirus affected football season is set to resume on June 11 the AFL has revealed.
Starting on Monday 18 May, clubs will be allowed to return to a modified training regime with all twenty clubs will be allowed to return to full scale training from May 25.
“We have developed our model as the best option for returning to play for both players and officials and the general public and have done so following extensive consultation, including with the Federal, State and Territory Governments and Chief Health Officers,” AFL CEO Gillon Mclachlan said.
The AFL has also revealed fixtures for the opening four rounds will be released inside the next 10 days.
