Police shoot man dead after stabbing rampage in north west
A man is dead and several people injured after the deceased went on a stabbing rampage at a popular shopping centre in the North West town of South Hedland.
Witnesses told The Northwest Telegraph the man went on the rampage stabbing up to seven people before being shot by police, one woman said.
The man apparently dressed in high-vis “stabbed someone in the McDonald’s carpark, then proceeded to the South Hedland shopping centre carpark and stabbed another” according to one witness.
“He entered the centre through the Kmart entrance before stabbing a few more,” the witness told The Telegraph.
A WA Police spokesman confirmed one man was dead, with a number of victims currently being treated at the Hedland Health Campus
WA Health Minister looks to ease lockdown restrictions
Wa Health Minister, Roger Cook has suggested that WA could follow the lead of the Northern Territory if Coronavirus cases continue to fall.
However the minister refused putting a timeline on the loosening of the lockdown.
“I’m not going to put a time on it,” he said. “I doubt you’ll ever see a situation where we have no new cases for three weeks.”
The minister also warned of an increase in WA coronavirus cases due to people now returning home from overseas
“We will see a steady stream of people coming back to WA.”
“We will be escorting them directly to the hotels … I think we’ll continue to use the hotels for the coming days in relation to the cohorts we see coming through.” Mr Cook said.
Dockers fine ‘party’ boys
The three Fremantle players captured on video at an alleged ‘houseparty’ have escaped police punishment but have been charged by their club.
Luke Ryan, Jason Carter and Micheal Fredericks were all captured on an instagram video posted by another attendee to the gathering.
Ryan and Carter have been fined $3000 (with $2000 suspended) and will be required to participate in community service while Frederick was free from club sanctions.
“We have to hold ourselves to a higher standard, regardless of the outcome of the police investigation,” said. Fremantle Chief Executive, Simon Garlick following the outcome.
