Australian Defence Force officers contract coronavirus
Five defence force officers in the Middle East have contracted coronavirus.
The Australian Defence Force decided to test personnel after a number of local contractors tested positive to the virus.
Four have returned to Australia and were taken to Royal Darwin Hospital with the fifth officer returned to Australia earlier after completing their deployment, and is currently in mandatory quarantine in Brisbane.
Shipbuilder to receive $350 million to construct patrol boats
Six new patrol boats are set to be built by shipbuilder Austal in a fast-tracked $350 million defence project.
Defence Minister Linda Reynolds announced that the additional vessels will be built in WA for the Royal Australian Navy.
She said the vessels will provide support to the economy and create jobs during the pandemic, as well as enhance national security.

Western Australia’s national parks, reserves and state forests are reopening today after eased coronavirus restrictions.
Borders within WA are still closed so residents will only be able to visit sites within their own region.
Minister for Tourism Paul Papalia told operators they are allowed to accept guests providing the 10- person gathering rule was followed.
He said the 4 square metres per person rule should also be followed particularly with shared facilities and other communal areas.
