COVID19 devastates aged care home
The Newarch House Facility in Western Sydney has been struck with 11 deaths as a result of the Coronavirus, including 5 in the past 24 hours.
The aged care facility now has a confirmed 56 cases, including 34 residents and 22 staff members.
Federal aged care minister Richard Colbeck has confirmed that a teleconference call with medical experts would be held this morning to discuss how the facility would continue to operate in light of the Coronavirus outbreak affecting residents and staff.
Back to School
Schools have officially resumed as of this morning, prompting thousands of extra teachers, support staff and cleaners to be deployed to WA schools.
While attendance is not mandatory for students at this point in time, the state government has projected that the majority of students will be returning to schools today.
Principal’s Federation of WA president Bevan Ripp has said that preliminary surveys show that 60-80% of students would be returning to classrooms today.
AFL level ‘training’ field
The AFL has put a ban on Western Australian teams training in groups of 10, a result of a complaint from Victorian teams.
The Dockers and Eagles had begun to expand their training groups and WA lockdown restrictions were eased on Sunday, but the AFL has now stepped in to ensure that clubs are only allowed to train with two players at a time.
AFL boss Steve Hocking told clubs that the measures would remain in so that no teams would have an unfair advantage in regards to their level of practice.
The Good News: WA man’s lucky scratchie win
A North Beach man has won big in the lotto over the weekend, winning $100,000 from a $5 Scratch’n’Win ticket.
The man wanted to buy a Nintendo Switch during lockdown but couldn’t afford one at the time, so he turned to Scratch’N’Win tickets instead.
“When i realised I had won, I called my fiancee and begged her to convince me this wasn’t a dream,” The man said in a statement.
He says even though he still has plans to buy a Nintendo Switch, but he has decided to buy a new car as well.
