McGowan warns of closed beaches
Perth beaches are in danger of being closed during Easter if people ignore COVID-19 restrictions.
With 30+ degree temperatures forecast until Saturday, it may prove more than tempting for those who may want to cool off to head to the beach this Easter break, however Premier Mark McGowan has issued a warning that he will shut down beaches if they become too crowded.
“If you want to go to the beach, go, have a swim, pack up your towel, go back to your car, head home.” WA Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Dreibergs told 6PR Radio on Wednesday.
Cop basher has sentence extended
A former boxer who had been jailed for slashing a policeman with a samurai sword, has been given an extra four years behind bars after prosecutors successfully appealed his shorter sentence.
Milos Radovic was found guilty of attempted murder of Senior Constable Andrew Swift back in July of 2017.
The appeal judges involved stated it was lucky that the officer didn’t die.
“It is vital that the courts impose significant custodial sentences upon offenders who intentionally cause serious injury to police officers acting in the course of their duties,” their statement read.
Radovic’s ex-wife had also taken out a violence restraining order against him back in January of 2015, the WA Supreme Court proceedings revealed.
‘Baysie’ bridge claims another victim
Perth’s Bayswater Bridge has claimed yet another victim with an unsuspecting truck getting lodged beneath it.
The most recent victim and third for 2020 was caught unawares like many before it, with pictures showing the truck wedged under the 3.8m clearing.
The well known rail bridge has been said to be getting replaced and enlarged to 4.8m as a part of a $146 million upgrade to the Bayswater station, according to the McGowan government.
The Good News: McConaughey hosts town bingo night
Acclaimed actor and producer Matthew McConaughey can now add bingo host to his resume after hosting a virtual bingo night with the elderly in Texas.
The 50-year-old actor had been asked by the residents of The Enclave in Round Rock since before the COVID19 outbreak and so he decided to follow through with the request.
Joined by McConaughey’s mother, wife and children, they called out the numbers and even stuck around for some questions.
