COVID19 cases hit one million cases worldwide
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases passed one million overnight, according to Johns Hopkins University.
The United States accounts for 236,000 of the cases in comparison to Australia’s 5,224 confirmed cases.
The economic impact has also been felt with figures showing over 6 million Americans applying for unemployment benefits last week, as its estimated one million Australians will be added to Centrelink systems in coming weeks.
PM Scott Morrison hits out at Aussies ignoring travel advice
Prime Minister Scott Morrison has hit out at the 16,000 Australians who are ignoring the advice surrounding overseas travel.
However, Mr Morrison admitted there were exceptions among the amount, who were travelling for aid and scientific work.
“Those who go overseas will find it very difficult to return to Australia,” he told radio station 2GB
Rent and child-care assistance tops Federal Government agenda
Relief for home and business is being discussed by federal and state leaders this morning.
Childcare regulation is another key agenda item, and the National Cabinet is taking a look at how to protect residential and commercial tenants.
The federal government announced a $1.6 billion childcare package yesterday aimed at keeping centres open through the outbreak.
The Good News: Aussie distilleries aid sanitising efforts
Distilleries in Australia have been converting their operations to produce much needed hand sanitiser.
Former Australian Cricket player, Shane Warne stopped the production of gin at his co-owned distillery SevenZeroEight to make medical- grade sanitiser for hospitals.
“This is a challenging time for Australian’s and we all need to help our healthcare system and save lives,” Warne said.
